Red-Hot Staffieri Cools Off Dillonvale

The Dillonvale Indians manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Westwood Bruins. The Indians were overpowered by Westwood starter Scott Staffieri, who hurled his club to victory, 7-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Markus Mensink said.
Over 9 innings, Staffieri blanked Dillonvale on 4 hits with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Staffieri said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
For the year, Staffieri has compiled a 2-1 record with a 2.40 ERA.

Rumrill Shuts Out Baxter Springs, 3-0

Nashville Lasers starter Chris Rumrill really did a number on the Baxter Springs Marshals, shutting them out, 3-0, on 2 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 11 strikeouts.
"We didn't have good at-bats," said Baxter Springs manager Justin Watts. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Rumrill."
To date this season, Rumrill has compiled a 3-1 record with a 2.97 ERA in 5 starts.
