Urbanek Grabs StC Top Pitcher Trophy

The Stripes Conference scribes have selected June's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to D.J. Urbanek of Orono. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 4-0 record.
The Oaks star performer made 5 starts with a 0.98 ERA and surrendered 29 hits in 36.2 innings. He struck out 19 and walked 12.
In 15 starts this season, Urbanek has notched a 11-3 record and a 2.10 ERA.

Martinez Nets SC #1 Pitcher Award

The Fremont Marshalls celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Mike Martinez had been selected as June's Stars Conference Pitcher of the Month. Martinez's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.
"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Martinez said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."
Martinez tossed 34.1 innings last month, holding opponents to a .227 average while striking out 20 batters. In 5 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 1.57.
In 16 starts this season, Martinez has recorded a 6-5 record and a 4.04 ERA.

StC's #1 Batter Chosen

Fabian Hartnett has a lot going for him. The Orono shortstop just broke into the majors this year and now the Stripes Conference has just picked him as its top hitter for June.
In 26 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .389 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
So far this year, Hartnett has hit .344 with 11 home runs, 33 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
