New Rochelle Starter Named StC's Best Pitcher

The Stripes Conference Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Marty Capone of New Rochelle for a superlative month.
"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Capone told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."
It all turned out for the best as the New Rochelle starter notched a 4-0 record with a 1.67 ERA last month. He made 5 starts and struck out 38 in 37.2 innings.
This year, Capone has made 10 starts, thrown 70.2 innings, fanned 64 batters and walked 17. His won-lost record is 4-3 with a 3.57 ERA.

Kent Wins SC Top Pitcher Honors

In June when the Montreal manager wrote the name "Kent" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, George Kent took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.
He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 2.14 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Royals star pitched 33.2 innings, fanned 29 and held opposing teams to a .246 average.
For his outstanding mound performance Kent was named the SC Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
So far this year, Kent has 10 wins and 3 losses and a 2.58 ERA.

Wise Takes StC's Best Bat Award

At only 23 years of age, Jeff Wise could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.
That would be great news for fans of the Ann Arbor Z's, as June was one to remember for the left fielder and he has captured the Stripes Conference Batter of the Month award.
On the month he hit .337 with 7 home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
This year, Wise is batting .287 with 15 home runs and 35 RBIs. In 67 games he has scored 49 times.
