Partons Advance to World Series

The Dollywood Partons are heading to the World Series after a 4-0 sweep of the Bangor Lumberjacks, capped off with a 2-0 win at Ballpark of Bangor.
"When you can put away a team like Bangor early, you do it," said right-hander Jamel Thomas, whose strong pitching performance earned him the nod as series MVP. "We're happy with the sweep and to move on without any drama."
For the series, Thomas had a 0.00 ERA over 6.2 innings pitched, with 5 strikeouts and a 1-0 record.

Desperados Manship No-Hits Flyers

John Manship was feeling calm about his no-hitter -- until the last three outs.
"You really become conscious of every pitch at that point," he said. "The adrenaline level kicks up even higher. Everybody in the ballpark knows a no-hitter is on the line. The crowd is on its feet. One mistake and it's all over."
There were no mistakes to be had for Manship on this day at Newark Fields. The Santa Rosa Desperados right-hander was in complete command, not allowing the Newark Flyers a single base hit in the 2-0 victory.
"Obviously, you never think this will happen," he said to BNN reporters after the game. "I don't know if it's really sunk in yet."
Manship faced 29 batters, had 10 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks in a dominating effort.
"He was on from the get-go," Flyers manager Carlos Almendarez said. "He was hitting his spots and keeping us off balance. It was a great game by him."
For this year, Manship has chalked up 11 wins and 5 losses in 28 starts with 128 strikeouts in 139 innings and a 2.91 ERA.

Desperados Move on to League Championship Series

It went the distance, but the Santa Rosa Desperados finally disposed of the St. Catharines Blue Jays 5-0 in the series clincher at Engineers Ballpark.
Winning the finale gave the Desperados the series, 4-3. They will now advance to the League Championship Series.
The Most Valuable Player Award went to Santa Rosa center fielder Gary Nahum. He batted .438 in the series, collecting 2 RBIs and scoring 4 runs.
"Gary deserves it," said Desperados manager Justin Watts. "He was the glue that held our club together."
The Santa Rosa Desperados will play against the Newark Flyers in the next round. Newark won their series against the San Antonio Stallions 4 games to 2. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes.
