Tropics Advance to World Series
Wednesday, September 28th , 2022
The White Deer Tropics are heading to the World Series, having narrowly defeated the Dollywood Partons.
White Deer edged Dollywood in the series 4-3, with a win at Dolly Parton Ballpark in the clinching game by a 1-0 margin.
Josh Kelly turned in a strong offensive performance for the Tropics and got series MVP for his efforts.
"I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a World Series win."
It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Kelly continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance.
For the series, he hit .409 with a .480 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 5 RBI and scored 5 runs.
The White Deer Tropics will play against the Santa Rosa Desperados in the next round. Santa Rosa won their series against the Newark Flyers 4 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

Shmidt 5-for-5 Against White Deer
Tuesday, September 27th , 2022
Mark Shmidt exploded for a barrage of base hits at Dolly Parton Ballpark.
The Dollywood center fielder had a field day in his team's 10-3 triumph over the White Deer Tropics, finishing 5-for-5.
"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Shmidt must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Mark Shmidt hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Dustin Mitchell in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Bernie Rodriguez in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
For the season, Shmidt has produced 94 hits in 291 at-bats for a .323 average with 18 home runs and gotten on base at a .407 clip.
