Islas Wants to Leave Sea Turtles

Local media has been reporting that Daytona Beach's Enrique Islas could be on the move. However, neither team officials, nor the 30-year-old left fielder chose to comment when approached.

Trouble in Philadelphia, Mendez Suffers Setback

"It's worse than we thought." That was the news from the Marauders clubhouse today as it was learned that second baseman Michael Mendez will be out for an added one week as a result of a recent injury. His treatment for a broken collarbone will have to be extended. Initially it didn't seem the injury was a major concern, but the Philadelphia second baseman told team trainers of some discomfort yesterday morning, and upon examination it was determined to be a more serious injury. "We'd rather take this thing slowly and make sure Michael gets back onto the field healthy," said the team's head trainer.
So far this year, Mendez is batting .221 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs.

Jacobs Connects for 3 Homers for Whistlers

Every now and then, everything just comes together.
Jim Jacobs discovered that today at Spiders Ballpark, as he smashed three home runs during the 5-1 Boston Whistlers win over the Cleveland Wild Things.
"I got three balls to hit and nailed all three of them," the Boston first baseman said in his postgame interview. "The first was a hanging curve, the second was right down the middle and the last one was a good pitch, but I guessed right and put the wood to it."
Jacobs finished the day with 3 hits in 4 at-bats and 5 RBIs.
Jim Jacobs grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Kory Trost in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Kory Trost in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Ryan Barber in the 8th.
In 120 games this season Jacobs has batted at a .252 pace with 114 hits and 24 home runs.
