"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Calvary Christian High School first baseman Alex Hall, shortly after the 14-4 win that clinched the series 4-3. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."
The team is now off to the Round 2.
Hall won series MVP honors on the strength of his .517 batting average during the series. He also had a .562 on-base percentage and 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 6 runs.
But it didn't end up being that difficult, as Etiwanda High School advanced to the Round 2 with a 4-2 score, to clinch the series 4-1 at Etiwanda High School Stadium.
"Whether it goes to the final game or not, we faced a good team and got the job done. It's a big momentum boost for us," said Mike Shumaker, who was named series MVP. "We're all feeling good about our chances to win the Round 3."
For the series, Shumaker hit .333 with a .400 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.
