5-Hit Barrage by Shafer
Sunday, August 13th , 2023
The Newark Flyers stopped the Deltaville Deltas by a score of 12-5 at Newark Fields, with the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder Ben Shafer. The 20-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Shafer said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Shafer did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Deltas.
"Not much that I can say," offered Deltaville manager Edgar Hernandez. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Ben Shafer hit a two-run home run off Willie Krell in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run triple in the 8th.
In 78 games this season, Shafer has compiled a .336 batting average with 110 hits and 14 home runs. He has also scored 71 times and knocked in 57 runs.
