Torres 5-for-7 for Cannonballers Sunday, August 28th , 2022 The Tampa Capitals downed the Cottage City Cannonballers, 17-12, at Cannonballers Ballpark, in spite of the best efforts of Cottage City first baseman Alex Torres. Torres lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-7 line -- and a loss. "I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter." Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the Capitals face Torres, Tampa manager Jayden Gamble said "absolutely not." "Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better." Alex Torres hit a solo-shot off Dave Velez in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Gabe Thomas in the 6th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th and flied out in the 13th.
