Santa Rosa turned a good performance from starting pitcher Justin Hesley into a 4-1 triumph over the Newark Flyers at Keelhaulers Ballpark. Hesley, now 13-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Shissho Matsuno recorded the save, making him 19 for 21.
The Desperados got a big at-bat from shortstop Matt Evert. For the game, Evert went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Santa Rosa a 2-0 lead.
Hesley attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
The victory gives Santa Rosa a record of 83-48.
