Williams Rips Santa Rosa for 5 Hits
Wednesday, June 29th , 2022
After his 5-hit effort at Keelhaulers Ballpark was tarnished by Newark's 6-5 loss to the Santa Rosa Desperados, first baseman Phil Williams told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."

He didn't get the win, but the 22-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-11 game against the Desperados.

"His swing is getting there," said Flyers skipper Carlos Almendarez after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Phil did that to perfection and we wasted it."

Phil Williams singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th, singled in the 12th, grounded out in the 15th, grounded out in the 17th, struck out in the 19th, flied out in the 22nd and grounded out in the 24th.

Williams is currently hitting at a .386 pace with 24 home runs and 73 RBIs.
