Bruins Grind Out 1-0 Win
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Westwood Bruins and the Hickory Crawdads, Randy Lupton, who is tied for 4th in the StC in wins with 10, was the difference-maker. The Westwood right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win. Lupton got the win, improving to 10-8. He gave up 7 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed no runs. Brad Antol notched his 20th save in 21 chances.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Bruins had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when shortstop Steve Ross hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Ray Fight and made the score 1-0, Bruins. Ross was 1 for 3.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Lupton.
By defeating Hickory, the third-place Bruins improved to 57-52.
