Columbus Defeated by White Deer, 6-5
|
The White Deer Tropics did just enough to sneak past the Columbus Bowsers, 6-5, at Ballpark of Columbus. White Deer pitcher Josh Fields, in particular, had a standout performance. Fields, now 4-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 12, walking 0, and allowing 4 runs. Picking up his 6th save was 19-year old right-handed pitcher David Cooper.
White Deer used the hitting of Ben Riffe to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Tropics on top, 3-0. For the game, Riffe had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Fields.
White Deer's record now stands at 60-76, placing them 4th in the Southern A West Division.
