The White Deer Tropics weathered a fine game by Nashua designated hitter Mike Middlebrooks to upend the Sweepers, 6-4, at Ballpark of White Deer. Middlebrooks went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winning pitcher was Steve Greene. He tossed 105 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. Dustin Mitchell, credited with the save, is now 6 for 7 in save opportunities.
Ben Parks had a big 2-run home run for the Tropics in the bottom of the fourth inning. With White Deer leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Gary Lutz and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Tropics on top, 4-1.
White Deer manager Brendan Rees commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
Nashua has now lost 4 straight.
