Bruins Clip Purple Wave, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Westwood Bruins and the New Rochelle Purple Wave, pitcher Chris Bruhl was the difference between victory and defeat. The Westwood right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 1-0 Bruins win. Bruhl, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The second-place Bruins sport a record of 45-45.
The Purple Wave had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Bruins going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 30-year old center fielder Jon Wagner came to the plate. Wagner hit a solo home run on a 1-0 fastball from New Rochelle hurler Ron Lombardi. It was Wagner's 6th home run of the year.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Brent Boudreau.
