Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Kalamazoo Comets and Lake Elsinore Storm.

The 5-3 Kalamazoo win over Lake Elsinore was due in large part to Paul Watson. The Comets left fielder went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Kalamazoo reliever Jim Unknown got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jim Unknown was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Jim Unknown, his 1st.

Noel Weatherhead had a timely hit in the top of the sixth inning. With two out and the bases loaded, the Kalamazoo first baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Comets in front, 4-3.

Kalamazoo manager Malcolm Griffin commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
