Montreal Royals starter Mark Stuart was on his game, helping his team beat the Fremont Marshalls, 3-2. Frank Yanez got the save, his 13th in 14 chances. By defeating Fremont, the third-place Royals improved to 74-64.

Jim Mann had a big solo home run for the Royals in the bottom of the second inning. With Montreal leading 2-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Tarjei Wiese and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Royals on top, 3-0.

"Mark did a heck of a job," said Montreal manager Bobby White.
