Governors Earn 2-1 Win Versus Mad Ants
The Governors earned a hard-fought, 2-1 win in 13 innings at Ballpark of Newport News. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from Portland pitcher Kevin Kovach. Kovach went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Rick Hill picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 8-0. George Robertson suffered the loss. The third-place Governors have won 4 straight.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 13th for Little Rock. That's when 23-year old third baseman Tamiela Kalolo hit a run-scoring double off George Robertson to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"Good ballgame," said Portland manager Efren Nieman. "But we came up on the short end."
