The Montreal Royals picked up a win at Chupacabras Stadium, knocking off the El Paso Chupacabras, 5-1. On the mound for Montreal was left-hander Alex Gomez. He played a key role in the triumph. Montreal reliever Jay Waltman, who is tied for 2nd in the SC in holds with 10, was credited with the win. His record goes to 4-2. Luis Najera took the loss for El Paso. The Royals are now 43-41.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Eddie Otero came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing El Paso pitcher Luis Najera, he hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 3-1.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Otero told the Montreal Today. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
