The Nashville Lasers called upon starter Jaden Melrose, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Hartford Matadors, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Melrose, now 4-4. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 2. Malcolm Freeman was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Nashville used a well-timed hit by Pedro Rangel to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Lasers ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Melrose told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
The third-place Matadors have lost 4 consecutive games.
