Havey Goes Wild, But Royals Win
|
The Montreal Royals had to overcome a big game from Little Rock second baseman Bill Havey to leave Ballpark of Newport News with a victory. And they did, winning, 8-5. Havey was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was 32-year old left-handed pitcher Joe Hewson. He tossed 99 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. With the win, the Royals have a record of 49-27.
Ryan Swift had a big 3-run home run for the Royals in the top of the second inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Matt Rector and swatted a home run to right. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 4-0.
"Enjoyed this one," Swift told the Montreal Citizen. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
