Matadors Earn 2-1 Home Win
|
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Hartford Matadors and Little Rock Governors.
Starting pitcher Mike McBeth was a major factor in the 2-1 Hartford Matadors triumph over the Little Rock Governors. McBeth got the win, improving to 4-2. He gave up 6 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Jesus Fernandez closed the door for Hartford, picking up his 12th save of the year.
Had Willie Kirkham not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Kirkham hit a 2-run double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Matadors.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," McBeth said.
The win elevated the Matadors to 36-18.
