Chesapeake beat Portland in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Chesapeake Tailgators did just enough to sneak past the Portland Mad Ants, 5-4, at Mad Ants Ballpark. Chesapeake pitcher David Damian, in particular, had a standout performance. Chesapeake, at 23-30, holds down 4th place in the Stars Conference East Division.

Tucson, Arizona-born Trey Maughan came through in the clutch. In the top of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Tailgators trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Chesapeake on top.

"We were the better team," crowed Maughan.
