Super Swinger -- Andrews Slams 5 Hits
Sunday, September 6th , 2026
Long Island left fielder Matt Andrews went down swinging at Wegman's Field, knocking out 5 hits even as his Torpedoes fell, 11-8.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Andrews said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Buffalo Bellflowers. "No offense meant to Buffalo, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the left fielder's improvements, saying Andrews spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Andrews agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Matt Andrews hit a solo-shot off Diego Cantu in the 1st, tripled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Rodolfo Luna in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Rodolfo Luna in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Miguel Gastelum in the 9th.
Thus far this season, Andrews has hit .329 with 22 home runs, 74 RBIs and scored 55 times.
