Spartans Heading to Elite 8 Friday, May 10th , 2024 With a narrow 2-1 series win, the Michigan State Spartans have eliminated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and are Sweet 16 winners. "We tried not to look ahead to the Elite 8, but we thought we'd be there for sure," said second baseman Jesse Griffin, who was named series MVP. Michigan State won the final game by a score of 8-5, wrapping it up at Drayton McLane Baseball Stadium at John H. Kobs Field. Griffin's big series saw him hit .583 with a .583 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 3 runs. The Michigan State Spartans will play against the Purdue Boilermakers in the next round. Purdue won their series against the Indiana Hoosiers 2 games to 0. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes. |
