Nittany Lions Dominate, Sweep Sweet 16 Sunday, May 9th , 2021 Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Conference 1 Sweet 16. It turned out quite a bit different. The Penn State Nittany Lions swept aside the California Golden Bears to advance to the Elite 8, winning the final game by a 4-2 score at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The series MVP was second baseman Dan Canady, who hit .429 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 1 runs. "We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it." The Penn State Nittany Lions don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Illinois Fighting Illini - Purdue Boilermakers series. Purdue leads the series 1 game to 0. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes. |
