White Deer Tropics right fielder Kyle Himes put on a dazzling display of power at Long Beach Grounds against the Long Beach Keys. In the 9-8 Tropics victory, Himes penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Long Beach manager Ron Kunkleman said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 24-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Himes said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Kyle Himes hit a solo-shot off Matt Davis in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 8th.
Himes is hitting .235 this year with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .314, 45 walks and scored 56 times.
