3-Homer Hat Trick for Avelar

Today was a special one for Jose Avelar of the Glace Bay Miners as he slammed three home runs in the 8-7 Miners win over the Santa Rosa Desperados.
"Lately, I've been uppercutting the ball too much," he said to sportswriters after the game. "I would hit it hard, but they just went sky high and stayed in the ballpark. No big long outs for me in this game. I leveled out my swing and connected on the sweet spot. I knew they were gone the minute I hit 'em."
The Glace Bay third baseman collected 3 hits in 6 at-bats, drove in 5, and scored 3 runs in the contest at Miners Memorial Park.
Jose Avelar flied out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Hector Ibarra in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off Ruben Torres in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off Matt Mullins in the 11th.
Avelar is swinging at a .350 pace on the year with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has played in 30 games.
