S-A Top Pitcher Award for May to Cortez Sunday, June 1st , 2025 Upon hearing the news that he had won the Southern A Pitcher of the Month honors for May's work, Dollywood reliever Gilberto Cortez merely smiled. "That's just the kind of guy he is, and that's what makes him so good out there," his manager told reporters. "The guy has ice water in his veins. Nothing short of a League Championship could get this guy excited and I'm not so sure that'd do it either." Cortez made no relief appearances burning through 38.1 innings as he racked up no saves, 31 strikeouts and held batters to a .270 average as he notched a 5-0 record and a 2.58 ERA. This season, Cortez has nailed down no saves with 48 strikeouts in 58.1 innings. He is credited with 7 wins and 1 loss and has a 2.62 earned run average. |
