Great Day for Matthews -- 5 Hits Friday, September 4th , 2026 There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day. Ryan Matthews is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-6 against the Washington Wildthings at Red Barons Ballpark. The monster effort from the 21-year-old center fielder helped the Winchester Mountaineers get the win, 14-1. "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Wildthings manager Brendan Rees. "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today." Ryan Matthews flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
