Baker on Fire: 5-for-5 for Libertyville
Sunday, August 30th , 2020
A jubilant Jake Baker joined the postgame press conference at Greensboro Grounds today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Traverse City Bears pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Libertyville Polecats first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led the Polecats to a 12-3 win.
"He made it look easy," said Ray Johnson, manager of the Bears. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Jake Baker hit a three-run home run off Willie Alvarez in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and singled in the 8th.
This season in 23 games Baker is batting .500 with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and has scored 7 times.
