Hendershot Torches Yard Dogs for 5 Hits
Tuesday, August 31st , 2021
A jubilant Tommy Hendershot joined the postgame press conference at Ballpark of Greenup to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Mobile Yard Dogs pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Rohnert Park Cougars first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 19-3 Cougars win.
"He made it look easy," said Gil Gomez, manager of the Yard Dogs. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Tommy Hendershot hit an RBI single in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Ricky Alvarez in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This year, Hendershot has batted at a .295 pace with 106 hits, 24 home runs, 66 RBIs and scored 69 times.
