Maynard on Fire: 5-for-5 for Palm Springs Wednesday, August 6th , 2025 A jubilant Mike Maynard joined the postgame press conference at Heat Ballpark to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Orono Oaks pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Palm Springs Heat shortstop, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 7-2 Heat win. "He made it look easy," said Mike Barriga, manager of the Oaks. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Mike Maynard singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
