Gemme Rewarded with 2020 StC Most Valuable Player Award
Thursday, October 29th , 2020
At the age of 22, Darren Gemme of the Walnut Park Bobcats could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2020 was good enough to win the left fielder the Stripes Conference Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .285 batting average this year, as well as a .339 on-base percentage. He played 101 games and racked up 110 hits, 18 doubles, 3 triples, 28 home runs, 66 RBIs and 64 runs scored.
He received 15 first place votes out of a possible 24. Ron Cardwell of the Walnut Park Bobcats finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Hunter Schalow of the Ann Arbor Z's finished third with 1 first place vote.
