McBurney on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Quebec Saturday, July 19th , 2025 Even as a kid, Jay McBurney said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At University of Maine Stadium, McBurney showed how well he learned that lesson. The 25-year-old center fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Orono Oaks, helping his team knock off the Quebec Aces by a score of 6-5. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Jay McBurney singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, struck out in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 10th.
