Monster 3-HR Day for Vela
Tuesday, June 29th , 2021
Quebec Fighting Quakers third baseman Tony Vela slugged three home runs against the Randolph Prairie Thunder at Prairie Thunder Ballpark, but couldn't win the game all by himself. The Prairie Thunder spoiled his day by defeating the Fighting Quakers, 7-6.
"The loss puts a damper on the outstanding game Tony had, but people will be buzzing about this for days to come," Quebec manager Jeff Gray. "That's gotta be some consolation to him. But knowing Tony, he would have preferred a win."
For the game, Vela was 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"The first two I got all of them and it was no doubt they were gone," Vela said later. "It seemed like the wind helped it a little on that last one. I just wish Mother Nature had helped us win the game, too."
Tony Vela grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ricardo Rincon in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Ricardo Rincon in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Caleb Campione in the 7th.
This year, Vela is hitting .233 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs in 67 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .314 with 27 walks and 26 runs scored.
