Root Goes 5-for-5
Tuesday, August 29th , 2023
After a 5-hit effort to lead Charleston's 10-5 victory over the Chicago Gangsters, center fielder Mark Root told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the American Baseball Association-level is really something special."
The 24-year-old player earned his accolades at The Hideout with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Gangsters.
"His swing is getting there," said Shiners skipper Chad Hart, who spoke glowingly of Root after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Mark did that to perfection."
Mark Root singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Braden Shaw in the 8th.
So far this year, Root is batting .281 with 16 home runs.
