Pope Socks It to Gangsters, Cracks 5 Hits Sunday, July 9th , 2023 Even as a kid, Corey Pope said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Fountain Park, Pope showed how well he learned that lesson. The 23-year-old left fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Fountain Hills 23ers, helping his team knock off the Chicago Gangsters by a score of 10-9. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Corey Pope singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th, singled in the 9th and flied out in the 10th.
