Fighting Quakers Earn 5-3 Home Win
|
Richard Alter, who leads the StC with a 9.6 K/9 rate, propelled his team to victory over the New Rochelle Purple Wave. The final score was 5-3, Quebec. The winner was Alter. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Jim Mendoza. Brian Kauppinen, who leads the StC in holds with 14, nailed down the save.
The Purple Wave had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Fighting Quakers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Victor Ramirez came to the plate. Ramirez hit a 3-run home run on a first pitch cutter from New Rochelle hurler Jim Mendoza. It was Ramirez's 6th home run of the year.
"It's nice to get the results when you're feeling good and throwing the ball well," said Alter after the game.
The third-place Purple Wave have lost 4 straight games.
