In a low-scoring contest between the Westwood Bruins and the Spokane Selects, Ricardo Alvarado, who is tied for 8th in the StC in wins with 12, proved to be the difference. The Westwood right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Bruins win. The first-place Bruins have won 4 consecutive games.

Westwood used the timely hitting of Bill Bridges to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bruins on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We played hard and won," said Alvarado. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
