Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at University of Maine Stadium.
Pitching was the name of the game for the Orono Oaks and the New Rochelle Purple Wave. Orono won it, 2-1, in 10 innings. Orono starter Brian Treadway was in command. The win was credited to Tim Kondas in relief. His record improves to 10-7. Jesus Henriguez took the loss.
The Oaks got a clutch hit from center fielder Jay McBurney. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Oaks.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Oaks manager Mike Barriga.
The slumping Purple Wave have dropped 11 in a row.
