Wet weather did not postpone the Fremont-New Rochelle ballgame.
Fremont picked up a win at Ballpark of Lexington, bumping off the New Rochelle Purple Wave, 5-3. Pitcher Eddie De Leeuw was a major reason the Marshalls emerged victorious. De Leeuw, now 5-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. Dave Hernandez earned his 12th save in 12 chances.
Fremont used the hitting of Mike Townsend to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Marshalls on top, 3-0. For the game, Townsend had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"When Eddie is on, he can really move the ball around," said Fremont manager Tyrone Hairston.
With the win, Fremont upped its record to 89-49.
