New Rochelle Purple Wave starter Jim Mendoza turned in a sterling performance against the Denver Pilots, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. Jimmy Carr picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 4-4. Mike Walsh suffered the loss. The second-place Purple Wave have won 5 straight.

The decisive blow was delivered by Dave Acosta in the bottom of the 15th when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez to win the game for New Rochelle. The home crowd went nuts.

Acosta called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
