Palm Springs Nets 2-1 Win Versus Z's
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Palm Springs Heat and the Ann Arbor Z's, 27-year old right-handed pitcher Rob Stech proved to be the difference. The Palm Springs right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Heat win. Michael Hatten, now 3-2, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 1. By defeating Ann Arbor, the last-place Heat improved to 52-79.
The Heat were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 28-year old left fielder Chris Epstein landed a big blow. He turned a 2-2 changeup from Tyler Kraus into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Heat Ballpark denizens into a frenzy and sent the Heat home with a thrilling 2-1 win.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Ann Arbor manager Mike Boren. "We just didn't cash in."
