The Westwood Bruins picked up a win at Jackie Robinson Stadium, topping the Denver Pilots, 5-3. On the mound for Westwood was right-hander Randy Lupton. He played a principal role in the triumph. Lupton yielded 2 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-0. Bobby Corbo earned the save for Westwood, his 7th of the year.

Westwood took a 5-2 lead on Steve Ross's 16th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Ross hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Denver pitcher Carlos Martinez visibly frustrated.

"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Lupton. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."

The Bruins, at 78-50, have now won 6 straight.
