Crawdads Beat Selects, 3-1

The Hickory Crawdads beat the Spokane Selects, 3-1, at Selects Ballpark. Starting pitcher Matt Schapp was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Nate Briceno earned the save for Hickory, his 5th of the year. Hickory is 84-45 and Spokane, with the loss, 67-62.
It could have been a different outcome for Hickory, had it not been for Jon Miller, the 30-year old first baseman . Miller contributed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put Hickory up, 1-0.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Miller said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
