Ross Helps Bruins Run Win Streak to 6
|
The Westwood Bruins defeated the Dillonvale Indians, 4-1, in part because of second baseman Steve Ross. Ross was 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Bruins. Randy Lupton, the winning pitcher, improved to 13-8. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Brad Antol picked up the save, his 22nd.
With Westwood leading 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Ross hit a run-scoring single off Dillonvale hurler Jim Unknown. It was the 80th hit of the season for Ross and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"Watch and learn," said Ross. "This is what good pitching looks like."
The third-place Bruins go to 66-58.
