Fighting Quakers Squelch Selects Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Quebec Fighting Quakers downed the Spokane Selects, 3-0, at Toros Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Miguel Berrios had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the StC in wins with 12, handcuffed his opponent all game. Berrios, now 12-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The victory gives Quebec a record of 75-47.
Andres Vega had a big solo home run for the Fighting Quakers in the bottom of the third inning. With Quebec leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from Moises Gonzalez, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft, and punished it. The result was his 19th home run of the season, which put the Fighting Quakers on top, 2-0.
Vega told a Quebec Observer reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
