Oaks Win with Late Heroics
|
Well, that's how to end a game in style.
The Orono Oaks beat the Quebec Fighting Quakers, 4-2, in 10 innings. Orono pitcher and Memphis, Tennessee, native Dave Figley led the way. The winner in relief was Justin Cox. He is now 5-2. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Orono. That's when Pete Roan, who is tied for 10th in the StC in triples with 4, hit a 2-run home run off Brian Hammond to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"I like our moxie," said Oaks manager Mike Barriga.
Orono, at 67-55, occupies second place in the Stripes Conference East Division.
