Crawdads Fall Short, 3-2, at Denver

The Denver Pilots got a marvelous performance from pitcher David Fry. The right-hander kept the Hickory offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 3-2 Denver victory at Pilots Ballpark. Denver reliever Danny Pena picked up the win, upping his record to 7-0. Jesus Howell took the loss. Jarred Gangi closed the door for Denver, picking up his 19th save of the year.
In the bottom of the 6th, pinch hitter Mike Coker gave Denver the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Pilots had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Hickory pitcher Jesus Howell changed that -- and Denver went on to win.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Denver manager Byung-sik Lee said.
Their 59-60 record puts the Pilots 5th in the Stripes Conference West Division.
