Z's Rebuff Bobcats, 4-3
|
The Ann Arbor Z's besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Walnut Park second baseman Steve Gunnells by beating the Bobcats, 4-3, at Knights Ballpark. Gunnells went 3-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ann Arbor reliever Kevin Martinez, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 draft, was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-2. Mike Garst took the loss for Walnut Park. The Z's saw their win-loss record go to 54-66. At the same time, the Bobcats fell to 64-56.
The Z's beat the Bobcats in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single David Crawford produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Mike Driskell, Crawford gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he hit a run-scoring single.
In postgame remarks, Crawford applauded his team's "business-like approach."
