In a low-scoring affair between the Hickory Crawdads and the Quebec Fighting Quakers, pitcher Matt Schapp was the difference between victory and defeat. The Hickory left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Crawdads win. Schapp got the win, improving to 3-0. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs. The Crawdads have an impressive 76-39 record.

The Fighting Quakers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Crawdads going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old second baseman Ryan Ward came to the plate. Ward hit a 2-run home run on a 2-0 cutter from Quebec hurler Sam Godsey. It was Ward's 8th home run of the year.

"We've got a great group of guys," Ward said, "and we're having fun right now."
