Purple Wave Losers, 3-1, Versus Ann Arbor
|
The Ann Arbor Z's earned a close win over the New Rochelle Purple Wave, thanks in part to Carlos Mejia. The Ann Arbor right-hander, who is tied for 4th in the StC with a 9.1 K/9 rate, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Brian Finkel earned the save for Ann Arbor, his 13th of the year. The 5th-place Z's are now 53-62, the Purple Wave 67-48.
The Z's got an important contribution from second baseman Jim Ells, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a first pitch fastball to left for a run-scoring double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Z's ahead, 2-0.
Ann Arbor manager Bryan Gallegos commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
