Westwood wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Scott Staffieri, falling to the Orono Oaks, 2-1. Staffieri threw 7.1 innings of 1-hit ball for the losing team. The Oaks, at 76-36, have a comfortable 17½-game lead in their division.

The decisive blow was delivered by Regis Roper in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Jeff Adams to win the game for Orono. The home crowd went nuts.

"It's good to win," Roper told the Orono Herald. "I like to have fun doing it."
