New Rochelle Wins Pitchers' Duel, 2-1
|
The New Rochelle Purple Wave had to overcome a good performance from Spokane pitcher Dusty Nelson to claim a 2-1 win at Ballpark of Lexington. Nelson went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Blake Banks got credit for the win, improving to 2-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Chris Hinojosa earned his 8th save in 9 chances.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Purple Wave had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when third baseman Dan Scott hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dusty Nelson and made the score 2-0, Purple Wave. Scott went 1-3.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Scott told the New Rochelle Observer.
The win lifted the New Rochelle record to 55-55.
